Thoughts About the New Site

I’ve been using WordPress for a long time and have barely scratched the surface, but I can’t help but see it as “bloated”. Just looking at the DOM makes me uncomfortable and I don’t like it. I know it seems silly to care about things like this, but I do…

Every once in a while I’ll come across other developer blogs and web sites and I will, of course, compare them to my own. Two of them that I found were actually decent looking and the DOM was nice and compact too. One of them also had an idea that I like that I would like to try out: a weekly dev log. The idea is to talk about what you’ve accomplished with your projects over the course of the week. As I’ve gotten older, I find it more difficult to stay motivated or interested in programming during my free time. Perhaps having a dev log to look back on will make it clear what I can accomplish in a given week. I don’t know. It’s just an idea.

Anyway, this post isn’t about much other than that I’m not happy with using WordPress for my home page and I might try to switch to something else. I’d also like to commit myself to a weekly “dev log”. Likely, I’ll post it on Friday while my memory for the week is still fresh.

In case you’re curious — or, more likely, in case I’m curious in a few days — the two recent blogs I found that inspired me: https://eev.ee/ and https://flaviocopes.com/.
